August 22, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Belarusian Red Cross (BRC) is involved in sending refugees from Ukraine to Russia, according to its secretary general, D\u017amitry \u0160a\u016dco\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe know that after my trip to Donbas, after a certain scandal broke out, the Belarusian federation\u2019s membership in the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was suspended. But the International Committee of the Red Cross did not suspend its cooperation with us. It said it will continue to work with the BRC because it appreciates our training. They believe that we are one of the best national societies in the world,\u201d \u0160a\u016dco\u016d told Belarus 1<\/em> TV in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that the main area of cooperation with the ICRC is helping Ukrainian nationals who arrive in Belarus via the EU, including through financial assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe receive these people, meet them, accompany them, and transfer them to the Russian Red Cross so that they can be reunited with their families in Russia,\u201d \u0160a\u016dco\u016d said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He referred to Ukrainian refugees as migrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the context of the BRC exercises held in August, \u0160a\u016dco\u016d highlighted the importance of first aid skills for the organization\u2019s volunteers. He mentioned \u201cnatural and man-made disasters\u201d but added that Red Cross workers might also be needed \u201cin a slightly different capacity,\u201d citing \u201cdifferent upheavals around our country\u201d and the past unrest in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
