August 24, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> A delegation from the Afghan embassy in Moscow has visited Afghans imprisoned in Belarus, Ariana News<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe delegation\u2019s primary objective was to assess the conditions of Afghan detainees and explore avenues for their repatriation to Afghanistan,\u201d the news network said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation was led by Hafez Abdullah Yasir, who, according to the Russian foreign ministry, serves as the embassy\u2019s first secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mission met with some Belarusian officials during the visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Afghan embassy in Moscow stressed the importance of international cooperation to ease the plight of Afghans abroad and thanked Belarusian authorities \u201cfor their willingness to engage in dialogue and collaborate on resolving the issues concerning Afghan prisoners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report did not name the number of Afghan prisoners in Belarus or the reasons for their persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus did not report any meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second Taliban rule started in 2021 during the withdrawal of the US military contingent from Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Taliban movement is recognized as a terrorist organization in Tajikistan, Turkey and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, in April 2025, the Supreme Court of Russia cleared the Taliban of its \u201cterrorist\u201d status. In July, the ambassador of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Gul Hasan, began his work in the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning of the year, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Siarhiej \u0141uka\u0161evi\u010d met in Kabul with his Afghan counterpart, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai (who appears on the KGB list of \u201cpersons involved in terrorist activities\u201d). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, on June 14, the Belarusian foreign minister and the Afghan government\u2019s special representative discussed expanding trade and economic cooperation during a meeting in Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus and Afghanistan established diplomatic relations in 1999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian embassy in Tajikistan also represents Minsk\u2019s interests in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
