August 27, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) on Monday registered a complaint from Respect-Protect-Fulfill human rights lawyers regarding prisoner Viktoryja Kul\u0161a and called on Belarus to take urgent measures to protect her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the human rights group, the CEDAW requested that the woman be given adequate medical and psychological attention, as well as proper detention conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the CEDAW made similar moves regarding prisoners Palina \u0160arenda-Panasiuk (released on February 1) and Maryja Kale\u015bnikava.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities hold Kul\u0161a at the Penal Colony No. 24. Previously, she was in the Penal Colony No. 4. According to Respect-Protect-Fulfil, her conditions are inhumane: she was routinely placed in a punishment cell and faces communication restrictions, including on calls and meetings with her loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prisoner went on hunger strike several times to protest against the detention conditions. In April 2025, activists learned about a new hunger strike, connected with the opening of a fifth criminal case against her. As a result, Kul\u0161a reportedly experiences health problems, such as loss of consciousness, heart attacks, tachycardia, low hemoglobin and high blood pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
