August 30, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Anastasija Pilip\u010dyk, wife of missing opposition activist Anatol Kota\u016d, reported his disappearance to the Polish prosecutors three days ago, reform.news<\/em> said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kota\u016d had been missing since August 21 after landing in Turkey. He reportedly left the country the same evening on a private yacht, which departed from the Black Sea port of Trabzon bound for Sochi,\u00a0DW\u00a0<\/em>reported, citing a Trabzon police source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilip\u010dyk said she communicated with him via text messages until about 9 p.m. on August 21 and has not heard from him since. The woman said she also contacted the police and the Polish Consulate General in Istanbul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A former Belarusian diplomat and official in Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s administration, Kota\u016d left government service in 2020 and supported the post-election protests in Belarus. Later he joined the Belarusian Sports Solidarity Fund (BSSF) and emigrated to Poland, fearing politically motivated persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, he was sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison in Belarus on extremism-related charges, a label Minsk frequently applies to punish opponents in exile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier in 2024, another high-profile Belarusian opposition figure, An\u017ealika Mielnikava, also disappeared after leaving the European Union. Her whereabouts remain unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
