September 5, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Poland\u2019s Shield-East border security program will include a complex system of border protections reaching up to 100 kilometers within the Polish territories, S\u0142awomir Walenczykowski of General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces told the economic forum in Karpacz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with conventional fortifications, Warsaw plans to implement several infrastructure projects and build access roads to facilitate the movement of troops and military equipment, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The border security program will also feature sensors to allow Polish soldiers to track potential enemies on the other side of the border as well as elements of electronic warfare and object recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shield-East, designed to fortify about 700 km of the Polish border, including 400 km of the border with Belarus, before 2028, is the largest program to strengthen Poland\u2019s eastern border since 1945.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union and NATO are expected to contribute some of the funding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU’s effort to secure its western flank met with an angry response from Minsk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile actors in the East and even across the Atlantic are taking steps to restore peace, those in Brussels use slogans of \u2018common responsibility\u2019 and \u2018defending the democratic world\u2019 to disguise efforts aimed at escalation and the expansion of conflict in our region,\u201d the Belarusian foreign ministry said in a statement earlier this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk further accused the EU of pursuing \u201can aggressive and overtly militaristic policy,\u201d citing rising military expenditures and attempts to portray Belarus as a threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
