This marks the Day of Belarusian Military Glory, a holiday celebrated by the pro-democracy movement on the anniversary of the Battle of Or\u0161a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn 1514, our ancestors defeated a much larger Muscovite army,\u201d BNR Rada Chair Ivonka Survi\u0142a said in an address. \u201cToday, you demonstrate courage by fighting Russian aggressors in Ukraine. It is in this battle that the fate of Belarus and the future of the European continent are being decided.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 75 people from the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment and the 1514 unit were recognized for their bravery. Of those, 12 received officers\u2019 golden medals. Nine were honored posthumously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier today, United Transitional Cabinet head \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja said that the 16<sup>th<\/sup>-century battle was a milestone in Belarusian history. She pointed out that history is repeating itself and that Belarusians are fighting to defend not only their sovereignty but also their neighbors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Same as 500 years ago, those who respect freedom and truth, unite against a common enemy and help each other will triumph, Cichano\u016dskaja stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Battle of Or\u0161a was fought on September 8, 1514, during the Lithuanian\u2013Muscovite War.
