September 8, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian experts have not identified any false facts allegedly disseminated by jailed journalist Ihar Ilja\u0161. That\u2019s according to Siarhiej Vahana\u016d, a veteran journalist and grandfather of Kaciaryna Andrejeva, Ilja\u0161\u2019s wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ilja\u0161 was accused of discrediting Belarus and facilitating extremism. Last week, the Minsk City Court heard Siarhiej Lebiadzinski, department head at Belarusian State University, who performed a psycholinguistic examination of the journalist\u2019s articles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vahana\u016d said the expert was completely biased. For instance, he said, Lebiadzinski pointed out that Ilja\u0161 used the term \u201cpolitical prisoners\u201d in his articles, claiming that this term does not exist in Belarusian law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes, it does not exist [in national legislation], but it does exist in the world\u2019s political science,\u201d Vahana\u016d said on Facebook. \u201cJust like the term \u2018political emigration\u2019 does. But in the expert\u2019s opinion, the term \u2018fleeing oppositionists\u2019 should be applied instead. And the term \u2018dictatorship,\u2019 which is routinely used by government officials, including the president, is totally unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou cannot write \u2018war against Ukraine,\u2019 since from the expert\u2019s perspective it is \u2018a war against the Kyiv regime,\u2019 not against the people,\u201d Vahana\u016d added. \u201cOf course, Lebiadzinski is entitled to such a viewpoint, but what does it have to do with expertise?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Journalist Kaciaryna Andrejeva is already serving a long sentence. Human rights activists have declared her and Ilja\u0161 political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
