September 9, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT) has announced measures to beef up security at borders with Belarus and Russia during the Zapad-2025 military exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VSAT notes that in the face of the migration crisis that began in the spring of 2021 and Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine in February 2024, Lithuania has been working to equip and man the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In connection with the Zapad-2025 exercise, VSAT said that border control would be taken to an even higher level. More intensive border monitoring, patrolling and other control measures will be carried out not only by border guards but also regular troops and the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VSAT braces for a possible spike in border incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An operational response to possible incidents will be ensured using reinforced units, additional border control and reconnaissance equipment and the existing infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The large-scale Zapad-2025 exercise will take place in Belarus from September 12 to 16. It will involve training for officers in planning strikes by nuclear weapons and Oreshnik missiles. The exercise will also focus on air defense, defensive combat operations and tactical aviation support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Lithuanian military intelligence, up to 8,000 military personnel will participate in the drills in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
