September 10, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The pro-democracy forces are expecting the Belarusian government to release more political prisoners in the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cUnfortunately, it looks like those released will be forcibly deported from the country,\u201d \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja told activists at a meeting in Vilnius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meetings with leaders of nonprofits that help political prisoners comes days after US President Donald Trump said his administration was in talks with Belarusian officials to secure the release of around 1,400 Belarusian \u201chostages.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI suggest calling a spade a spade: [it will] not be release but deportation. We must be prepared to take these people in,\u201d the opposition leader said, according to her chief adviser, Franak Via\u010dorka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFirst, we should assess how many places, beds and resources we already have in Poland and Lithuania,\u201d Cichano\u016dskaja said. \u201cSecond, we should calculate what resources and capabilities are needed to host 100, 500 or 1,000 people. Mind that Lithuania and Poland will need extra time to prepare documents. Perhaps we should consider setting up a temporary camp.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
