September 14, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja met representatives of the European Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS) to discuss support for Belarusians and sanctions against Minsk, her aide Franak Via\u010dorka told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meetings took place earlier this week in Vilnius and included Adrienn Kiraly of the directorate-general for neighbourhood and enlargement, Aymeric Dupont of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and others, he noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja focused on urgent support programs for pardoned Belarusian regime critics, sanctions against Alaksandar \u0141ukas\u0161enka and his officials as well as support to the independent media, Via\u010dorka said. The sides also discussed an upcoming meeting with EU representatives on October 8 to assess the needs of Belarusian civil society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opposition leader thanked the EU for its consistent and principled stance on Belarus, stressing that pro-democracy forces value the cooperation and see European integration as a key priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three days ago, Cichano\u016dskaja also met with diplomats from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden, urging continued pressure on Minsk until systemic change in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
