September 15, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin has stated that the Zapad-2025 exercise involves about 7,000 soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese are 6,000 troops from the Republic of Belarus and about 1,000 troops from the Russian Federation,\u201d Chrenin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August, Lithuania\u2019s Second Investigation Department said that up to 30,000 Belarusian and Russian troops would participate in the drills. However, only 8,000 of them, including 2,000 Russian soldiers, would be on Belarusian territory, the Lithuanian intelligence agency predicted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chrenin highlighted the importance of \u201cgaining experience from our Russian colleagues.\u201d The minister also asserted the transparency of the maneuvers, arguing that \u201cwe have nothing to hide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are interested in reducing tensions in the Eastern European region and are taking real practical steps to do so. Perhaps the most important step that was taken was our president\u2019s decision to pull the main action [away from the NATO frontier] into our country’s depth, which is what we did,\u201d Chrenin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the Belarusian defense ministry reported that diplomats from Hungary, Turkey and the United States are observing the Russian-Belarusian Zapad-2025 exercise at the 227th training ground in the Minsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
