September 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that such leverage as closing the border remains at Warsaw\u2019s disposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should the need arise, if tensions grow or the aggressive behavior of \u201csome neighbors\u201d increases, the government will not hesitate to stop checkpoint traffic again, Tusk said today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The completion of the Zapad-2025 maneuvers has reduced various types of threats associated with the aggressive position of \u201ceastern neighbors,\u201d the premier said, according to his office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that the economic interests of Polish truckers were considered when the decision to open the border was made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tusk stated that the border closure had achieved its objective, noting that security concerns have dissipated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tusk directed the interior ministry to open the border with Belarus at 1 a.m. on September 25,\u00a0tvn24.pl<\/em>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said both railway and road checkpoints will open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision comes amid concern in China over Poland\u2019s decision to shut all border checkpoints on September 12 over security concerns in connection with the Belarusian-Russian exercise Zapad-2025, which began on the same day and concluded on September 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chinese officials visited both Poland and Belarus in the ten days to discuss border opening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relations between Minsk and Warsaw, already strained by irregular migration and Belarus\u2019 refusal to release journalist and Polish minority activist Andrzej Poczobut from prison, have worsened this month following the arrest of Polish national Grzegorz Gawe\u0142 in Lepel, Viciebsk region, the expulsion of a Belarusian diplomat from Poland, and heightened tensions between Poland and Russia after an unprecedented incursion of military drones into Polish territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
