September 25, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on September 24 as Valer Cima\u0161enka, a former designated political prisoner, died at the age of 42, one year after his release, his widow Viera Cima\u0161enka said on Instagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prosecutors forwarded to court a criminal case against two business executives accused of bribery, the Prosecutor General\u2019s Office said. One of them also faces charges of inciting hatred, violent disorder and calling for sanctions over his participation in 2020 postelection protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dzianis Dzienisienka, 27, is accused of rioting in special proceedings that target exiled regime critics, the Investigative Committee said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Committee for State Security (KGB) branded the Synthetic Overdose initiative as an extremist group, listing Mikita Ziuzika\u016d and Dzianis Lichalet, both born in 2003, as members, according to the interior ministry\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Viciebsk region\u2019s officials submitted 95 requests to courts to blacklist content as extremist this year, the Prosecutor General\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information ministry blocked access to Flibusta, a popular online free library, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian human rights community declared 19 more people as former political prisoners yesterday, according to Viasna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of September 25, human rights defenders identified at least 1,194 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
