September 26, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>At least 4,159 people have been designated as political prisoners in Belarus since 2020, Kry\u015bcina \u0160yjanok, head of the Belarusian pro-democracy forces office in Prague, has told the #WithoutJustCause conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organized by \u0160yjanok\u2019s team, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s office, opposition transition cabinet and major Belarusian rights groups, the event is taking place in Warsaw today and in Pozna\u0144 on September 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlthough 2020 didn\u2019t change the political system, it helped Belarusians \u2018mature\u2019 in their self-identification,\u201d \u0160yjanok said. \u201cThose unjustly imprisoned in Belarus are not living in a separate reality \u2014 this is our reality, and we cannot turn a blind eye and simply carry on as if nothing happened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conferences may not secure the release of jailed regime critics, but they remain crucial for reassessing the roles of Belarusian society and foreign partners, the activist noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today’s events in Warsaw include panel discussions on the current human rights situation in Belarus, efforts to liberate and support dissidents and international support instruments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pozna\u0144 will host a fair of projects and initiatives focusing on assistance to current and former political prisoners and their families, along with presentations and discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
