September 30, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, a delegate from the opposition Coordinating Council to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), has expressed strong support for the International Criminal Court (ICC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician made his remarks at a meeting of the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights during the assembly\u2019s fall session, his faction reported on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka stressed that the ICC remains the only effective body able to investigate crimes committed by Belarus\u2019 top political and military leadership, particularly those targeting Belarusians and Ukrainians. Therefore, he said, it is crucial that the court be able to fulfill its mandate without any interference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tekke Panman, of the Netherlands, who told the meeting about the threats facing the ICC, reportedly supported \u0141atu\u0161ka\u2019s position. According to him, precisely to achieve the goals voiced by the Belarusian politician, it is necessary to prepare a report and work on strengthening the international court\u2019s role in the overall system of international justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the meeting, \u0141atu\u0161ka and Panman agreed to cooperate on drafting the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the sidelines of the PACE fall session, \u0141atu\u0161ka also met with Constantinos Efstathiou, rapporteur on transnational crimes. The Belarusian politician told Efstathiou that since the beginning of 2025, the Belarusian Investigative Committee \u201chas initiated at least 970 criminal prosecutions of an extraterritorial nature against Belarusians legally residing in Poland and Lithuania.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to \u0141atu\u0161ka, Belarusians face the most transnational repression of any European people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PACE is holding its fall session in Strasbourg from September 29 to October 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
