October 1,<\/strong> Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>The number of irregular crossings by third-country foreigners from Belarus into Poland dropped during the border closure from September 12 to 25, with the trend continuing in the first five days after the border reopening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the five days from September 25, when the border was opened, the Polish Border Guard recorded 392 attempts, 5.1 percent fewer than from September 20 to 24, according to Pozirk<\/em>\u2019s analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

September may account for the lowest number of irregular border crossings after April this year, with just over 2,400 attempts following 5,340 attempts in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, Poland thwarted 26,311 attempts, 1.9 percent fewer than in the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
