{"id":158370,"date":"2025-10-03T14:20:41","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T11:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/158370\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","slug":"sociologist-independence-remains-key-value-for-belarusians","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/158370\/","title":{"rendered":"Sociologist: independence remains key value for Belarusians \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>October 3, <em>Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Sociological surveys of Belarusians\u2019 geopolitical preferences consistently show that the idea of independence is the fundamental factor driving their choices, sociologist Andrej Vardamacki, head of  Warsaw-based Belarusian Analytical Workshop, has said at a round-table discussion in Wroc\u0142aw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While geopolitical preferences can shift rapidly, influenced by emotions, independence remains a unifying cornerstone for the nation, Vardamacki stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Empirical data indicate that Belarus\u2019 current shift toward Russia is not irreversible and that pro-European sentiment could strengthen, the researcher added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, the Belarusian Committee for State Security (KGB) branded the Belarusian Analytical Workshop as an extremist group, listing Vardamacki, political scientist Pavie\u0142 Vusa\u016d and Maryna Novikava as members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vardamacki left Belarus in 2010 and founded the Belarusian Analytical Workshop as an independent sociological and analytical initiative in Warsaw two years later. Its activities include public opinion surveys in Belarus as well as research and analysis of political attitudes and media consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the 2020 political crisis, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October 3, Pozirk.
