October 8, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The number of irregular crossings by third-country foreigners from Belarus into Poland surged by 20.4 percent to 591 from October 1 to 6 after 491 attempts recorded in the previous six-day period, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, the neighboring European Union countries have recorded 38,668 irregular entries via Belarus, 19.5 percent more than in the same period in 2024 and 6.5 percent more than last year\u2019s total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attempts to cross irregularly into Poland dropped 0.7 percent year on year to 27,001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania recorded 1,281 attempted border crossings, twice as many as during January\u2013September 2024, while Latvia reported 10,386 attempts, more than double last year’s figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
