October 14, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Lithuanian President Gitanas Naus\u0117da said in the Akmen\u0117 district on Tuesday that his country is willing to keep providing asylum to Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja, according to Delfi<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier in October, Lithuania moved to reduce security for Cichano\u016dskaja, who lives in Vilnius with her family. Her adviser, Dzianis Ku\u010dynski, said that her office in the Lithuanian capital suspend operations due to \u201cchanges in the security and safety system.\u201d Naus\u0117da\u2019s adviser, Asta Skaisgiryt\u0117, then clarified that the decision to downgrade the security detail for Cichano\u016dskaja was not final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Naus\u0117da, the decision was taken after a thorough assessment of the threat level. He argued that politicians are dramatizing the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja and her team remain welcome people in Lithuania, the president said. Vilnius is always ready to provide asylum to those who are persecuted, he added. Finally, Naus\u0117da expressed hope that the team will stay in Lithuania, noting that Vilnius will create all the necessary conditions for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
