October 16, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on October 15 as Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> reported police raids and arrests targeting dozens of families of designated political prisoners and their friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Athlete Hanna \u0160pak was found guilty of facilitating extremist activities and added to the official register of people \u201cinvolved in extremist activities,\u201d Na\u0161a Niva <\/em>said. The sentence remains unknown. Her persecution may be linked crackdown on people who shared pictures of Russian military equipment movement with the Bie\u0142aruski Hajun resistance group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The Committee for State Security (KGB) added six more people to its list of \u201cpersons involved in terrorist activities,\u201d taking the total of entries to 1,473, it said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information ministry announced extremist content designations for NaviBand\u2019s social media accounts and frontwoman Ksienija \u017duk\u2019s Instagram page. Other blacklisted content includes Facebook groups by Belarusian communities in Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine\u2019s Lviv; inrule<\/em> and mikalaibandarenka<\/em> on TikTok and several others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians raised \u20ac12,000 for former political prisoner Anastasija Bu\u0142ybienka in 24 hours, according to the Rozovye Kosynki<\/em> Telegram channel. Earlier, Lithuania-based Bu\u0142ybienka complained of post-traumatic stress disorder and reported surviving a suicide attempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights defenders added nine more people to the list of political prisoners, the Viasna Human Rights Center said. Jauhien Va\u0142ychin, Juryj Ruba\u0161enka, Natalla Vasiljeva, Aleh Kinie\u016d, Pavie\u0142 Jasny and Juryj Jurko\u016d are serving their sentences; Kanstancin Michaj\u0142o\u016dski, Iryna Bujnievi\u010d and Hienrych Ahieje\u016d are held in custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of October 16, human rights defenders identified at least 1,227 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
