October 16, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The security level of the Belarusian opposition leader as president-elect should remain unchanged, since \u201cthe Belarusian regime has not changed in any way,\u201d said Tomas Tomilinas, deputy chairman of the Lithuanian Seimas\u2019 European Affairs Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the Obychnoe Utro<\/em> YouTube show, he pointed out that the discussion about \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja’s security is an opportunity to highlight the benefits of the Belarusian opposition’s presence in Vilnius. He added that most Lithuanians are unaware that the Belarusian opposition leader has a special status and security in their country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian organizations attract to Lithuania tens of millions of euros from the European budget, the budgets of other countries and, in the past, the US budget, but \u201cno one really knows this,\u201d he said. The MP emphasized that all funding is \u201cabsolutely transparent\u201d and beneficial to his homeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis just needs to be conveyed to the people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that supporting Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s team gives Vilnius diplomatic leverage\u2014\u201cthere is a possibility to influence European politics by hosting the office with which heads of state are constantly negotiating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
