October 20, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, one of the leaders of the Belarusian opposition in exile, has addressed Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s willingness to strike a \u201cbig deal\u201d with the West in his speech<\/a> at the Berlin Belarus Future Forum 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka does not have any bargain for Belarusians, because he wants to come to terms with the West \u201cwithout a real change in policy,\u201d \u0141atu\u0161ka stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf \u0141uka\u0161enka refuses to engage in a national dialogue, a dialogue with democratic forces, and does not want to resolve the domestic Belarusian crisis and division, can we trust him as a participant in a more global anti-crisis dialogue? There is only one answer\u2014no\u00ad,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician sees the following alternative to a deal on Minsk\u2019s terms: \u201cTo recall the strategic interests and instruments of Europe and the United States and to make them the basis of communication with the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime. Communication from a position of strength, where both Europe and the United States clearly convey to the regime the conditions of the Big Deal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among these conditions, \u0141atu\u0161ka mentioned ending reprisals, releasing all political prisoners, as well as the safe return of Belarusian emigres and guarantees against their subsequent persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conditions also include ending the migration crisis on the Belarusian-EU border, decriminalizing political and civic activities in Belarus and abandoning support for the Russian war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the regime does not meet them, it is suggested keeping up pressure on Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
