October 21, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian Prosecutor General Andrej \u0160vied has signed an agreement on cooperation in combating irregular migration in Tajikistan’s Dushanbe following a meeting of chief prosecutors from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irregular migration threatens national security and economic stability, facilitating activities of terrorist and extremist organizations and organized criminal groups, the Russian Prosecutor General\u2019s Office reports, citing meeting participants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0160vied signed the agreement amid the ongoing migration crisis at the Belarusian border with the European Union. Belarus’ western neighbors consider it a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, the neighboring EU countries have thwarted more than 40,000 irregular crossings by third-country foreigners via Belarus, including some 28,000 attempts targeting Poland; nearly 11,000, Latvia and 1,400, Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
