October 22, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>New instances of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on October 21 with reports coming in of continuing phone checks, interrogations and arrests at Belarusian border crossings, according to BGmedia<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the recently pardoned dissidents who was taken to Lithuania received a police summons at his Belarusian address, the Viasna Human Rights Center said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksiej Ha\u0142a\u016dko, serving 12 years in a politically-motivated case, was given six more months on disobedience charges, the AChK Belarus<\/em> Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maryna Kula\u0161ova, head of sales at the OMA construction retailer, was sentenced to a restricted freedom term in home confinement on extremism-related charges, Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian rescue workers were granted paramilitary guard powers, including the right to conduct personal searches, under new legislative amendments published on pravo.by<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights groups added 14 new names to their list of political prisoners yesterday, Viasna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of October 22, human rights defenders identified at least 1,247 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because of many undocumented cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
