August 25, BPN.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarusian ruler has claimed that he has never given security guarantees to the deceased Russian mercenary leader, saying that he warned Yevgeny Prigozhin and one of his commanders to “watch out.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s office quoted him as saying in Minsk that up to 10,000 troops from Prigozhin’s Wagner Group can stay in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Wagner lived, Wagner lives, Wagner is to live in Belarus, no matter how much someone does not want it,” he said, altering a passage from Soviet poet Vladimir Mayakovsky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 23, a business jet with three crew members and seven passengers crashed in Russia’s Tver province. One of those killed in the crash was Prigozhin, according to reports. The aircraft might have been downed by an air defense system or blown up by a bomb, analysts said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prigozhin and his Wagner army entered Belarusian politics two months ago. In late June, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka mediated an end to their march on Moscow after the mercenary leader threw down the gauntlet to Russia’s military brass. The mutineers were allowed to move to Belarus, and \u0141uka\u0161enka announced security guarantees<\/a> for Prigozhin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The oligarch later traveled to Russia on multiple occasions and continued to do business there.
