October 22, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> At a debate in Strasbourg on the European Parliament resolution regarding Belarus, Polish MEP Andrzej Halicki (European People\u2019s Party) said that Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka should be brought before the international tribunal in The Hague.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka must answer to the court, \u201cnot seek a place for himself in political circles,\u201d Halicki said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called \u0141uka\u0161enka a dictator and a usurper, \u201cbecause he knows and we know that in 2020 he lost the election and stole the presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halicki also expressed hope for the release of political prisoners in Belarus and asserted the effectiveness of sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He mentioned imprisoned journalist and Polish minority activist Andrej Pa\u010dobut (Andrzej Poczobut), who was awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought by the European Parliament on October 22. \u0141uka\u0161enka has failed to silence this \u201csteadfast man\u201d despite his imprisonment, the deputy stressed. He expressed the hope that one day, Pa\u010dobut could speak at the European Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI would like to consider what he would tell us today. I think he would say one thing: there are values that are not traded,\u201d the MEP said, urging Europe to keep calm and continue the sanctions pressure on \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For her part, Polish MEP Ma\u0142gorzata Gosiewska, of European Conservatives and Reformists, said that awarding the Sakharov Prize to Pa\u010dobut was intended to express \u201cour support for all political prisoners of the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Gosiewska, evidence against \u0141uka\u0161enka and the regime\u2019s accomplices is already being gathered, \u201cand the day will come when they will be tried by the International Criminal Court in The Hague.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
