October 27, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Human rights defenders and officials reported new instances of political repression in Belarus on October 25\u201327.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Hrodna, former regime prisoner Alaksandar \u0141a\u016dren\u0107e\u016d was jailed for 15 days for allegedly spreading calls for extremism (prosecutors often use this wording to describe sharing opposition content online). In 2022, \u0141a\u016dren\u0107e\u016d had been sentenced to three years and four months in prison. He was released in June 2025, Haradzienskaja Pravaabarona reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides, authorities declared several websites and social media pages to be \u201cextremist content.\u201d They included the Telegram accounts Dzmitryj Spiryd\u0430u and Ikhtiandry Bresta; the websites 1pr.live and Militant Zone; and the VK pages Doloy Lukashenko and MILITANT BLACK METAL \u2013 SHOP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TikTok page of prominent opposition politician Siarhiej Cichano\u016dski was also declared extremist. In addition, the TikTok account volyabela and the Threads page free_zhlobin were blacklisted, according to the information ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bie\u0142JurZabie\u015bpia\u010de\u0144nie, a state-owned company that sells forfeited property, put up for online auction an apartment seized from Ja\u016dhien Vilski, acting chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaja Hramada). Vilski currently resides outside Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julija \u0141aptanovi\u010d, a mother of three, was released from prison and left Belarus. In July 2022, the Hrodna Regional Court sentenced her to five years in a case widely regarded as politically motivated. The charges brought against her included insulting an official, threatening a judge and violent disorder, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of October 28, human rights defenders identified at least 1,237 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because of many undocumented cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
