October 28, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>An additional event at the ongoing Congress of Local and Regional Authorities tomorrow will spotlight Belarusian pro-democracy forces, Secretary General Mathieu Mori has told journalists in Strasbourg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will focus on how local authorities can help Belarusians, mainly those living in exile, in their daily lives, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Congress also runs regular education seminars for Belarusian activists interested in self-government practices, the official told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMany of our activities are, of course, low-profile because we want to protect the participants,\u201d he said. \u201cI am not talking about the delegation itself, which is well known, but I am referring to the members of the reserve who regularly join us here in Strasbourg, online and in person, for training. We have recently held three such seminars and regularly provide expert and legal advice on local self-government issues to Belarusian pro-democracy forces.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities is one of the key institutions at the Council of Europe alongside the Committee of Ministers and PACE, comprising governors, mayors and local politicians from 46 CoE member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
