October 31, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian authorities and human rights defenders reported new cases of political repression on Wednesday and Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Viasna Human Rights Center, on June 9, a panel of the Hrodna Regional Court judges sentenced Viktar Damaracki to 13 years in prison, without the defendant being present. Damaracki was found guilty of high treason. The panel also fined him 12,600 rubels ($3,700) and stripped him of his rank of senior lieutenant in the military reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentence of Alaksiej Kajda\u0161, who had been declared a political prisoner in May, was also reported: three years in a medium-security penal colony for allegedly facilitating extremist activities, according to Viasna Homiel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The content of several information resources and social media pages was labeled extremist, according to the information ministry. Among them are the YouTube channel Ma\u0142adaja Hramada<\/em>, the TikTok page Sovetskaya Belorussiya<\/em>, the Odnoklassniki page Bud\u017ama Bie\u0142arusami!<\/em>, the video \u201cThermonuclear \u0141uka\u0161enka,\u201d etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Committee for State Security (KGB) added eight people to the list of \u201cpersons involved in terrorist activities,\u201d bringing the total to 1,400.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On October 29, the Belarusian human rights community declared 11 people as political prisoners. On October 30, five more people were added to the list. A total of 155 people have been recognized as political inmates since the beginning of September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of October 31, human rights defenders identified at least 1,242 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because of many undocumented cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
