October 31, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The Belarusian interior ministry has added 26 more people to the list of \u201cpersons involved in extremist activity,\u201d taking the total number of entries on the official extremist register to 5,942.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are: Alaksandar Budziejka, Vasil Prochara\u016d, U\u0142adzimir Macha\u0144ko, Viktar Star\u017eynski, Julija Hryhorjeva, Hanna Nasieka, Iryna Voranava, Natalla A\u016dsieju\u0161kina, A\u0142a Protas, \u0141arysa \u0160abalo\u016dskaja, Ta\u0107ciana \u0160upie\u0144ka, Andrej Lasniak, Ihar Bacha\u016d\u010duk, Mika\u0142aj Luckievi\u010d, Alaksiej Francuza\u016d, D\u017amitryj Raman\u010duk, Vieranika Raman\u010duk, Aleh \u0141ojka, Ina Korbut, Ivan Jurski, Alaksandar Va\u016d\u010dok, Fiodar Marcinkievi\u010d, U\u0142adzimir Ku\u0161nier, Hanna U\u0142asienka, Siarhiej Daronin and Alena Safronava.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights groups consider Prochara\u016d, \u0141ojka and Ku\u0161nier, serving prison terms ranging from 11 to two years, to be political prisoners. They were convicted on protest- and extremism-related charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Star\u017eynski, Luckievi\u010d, Korbut, Jurski, Va\u016d\u010dok, U\u0142asienka, Daronin and Safronava are also imprisoned after being convicted on charges that authorities typically use to persecute political opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hryhorjeva, Voranava, Francuza\u016d, D\u017amitryj and Vieranika Raman\u010duk were were reportedly released from liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations under Article 342 of the Criminal Code used to punish participants in the 2020 postelection protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentences of 10 individuals remain incomplete, which means that they may serve non-custodial terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
