November 3, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Minsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office has forwarded to court a case against four people charged with facilitating irregular migration via Belarus into Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspects allegedly earned 6,700 Belarusian rubels (about $2,250) for organizing a transfer to Russia for ten people from Central Asia who arrived in Minsk by air in April, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report comes amid an ongoing irregular migration crisis at the border between Belarus and the European Union and a notable lack of criminal cases related to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to enter the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, \u0141uka\u0161enka claimed that foreigners were traveling to the EU because they were \u201cinvited there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
