November 4, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Ihar Siekreta discussed cooperation between Belarus and the UN Human Rights Office with its head Volker T\u00fcrk in Geneva yesterday, the Belarusian foreign ministry\u2019s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion focused on recommendations adopted following the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review of Belarus and exchanging views on global trends in human rights, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At yesterday\u2019s UN hearings in Geneva, Siekreta denied the existence of political prisoners in Belarus, while other speakers expressed concern about the deteriorating human rights situation in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official also stressed the deteriorating human rights situation in certain European Union countries at his meeting with T\u00fcrk, calling for a \u201ccritical and objective approach by the UN to assessing human rights violations in Western countries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk is ready for \u201cnon-politicized cooperation\u201d with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Siekreta noted and invited T\u00fcrk to visit Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OHCHR did not report the meeting with the Belarusian official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the same day, Siekreta met Beate Andres, assistant director general and regional director for Europe and Central Asia at the International Labor Organization (ILO), to present the Belarusian government’s views on social and labor policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siekreta lobbied for the restoration of full cooperation between all ILO institutions and Belarusian partners \u201con a pragmatic and non-politicized basis,\u201d the foreign ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
