November 5, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian MPs have approved the ratification of a readmission agreement with Pakistan, the lower house’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the agreement, Belarus and Pakistan are required, upon request from the other party, to accept their nationals who \u201chave entered or are staying in the territory of the requesting party in violation of that party\u2019s laws governing the entry, exit and stay of foreign citizens and stateless persons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the readmission accord in April during Sharif\u2019s visit to Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two reportedly agreed to develop a mechanism for the arrival of labor migrants from Pakistan to Belarus. \u0141uka\u0161enka said Belarus was ready to hire between 100,000 and 150,000 Pakistani skilled workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement has caused a mixed reaction in Belarusian society, to the dissatisfaction of the government. \u0141uka\u0161enka claimed that certain forces wanted to \u201cstir up Belarusian society\u201d by focusing on immigration issues, in particular the arrival of Pakistani staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
