{"id":163213,"date":"2025-11-06T12:26:32","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T09:26:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/163213\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","slug":"reprisals-trial-in-absentia-targets-exiled-honest-people-members","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/163213\/","title":{"rendered":"Reprisals: trial in absentia targets exiled Honest People members"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>November 6, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on November 4 and 5 with a trial in a criminal case targeting four exiled members of the Honest People initiative, deemed extremist in Belarus since 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alena \u017dy\u0142a\u010dkina (\u017dyvah\u0142od), Zaryna Sarokina, Aleh Davyd\u010dyk and Cimafiej Ma\u0142acho\u016dski are not present at the trial where they face six criminal charges, the Viasna Human Rights Center said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities in Belarus continued equating criticism, solidarity and free expression to extremism and terrorism, with extremist content designation for Pavie\u0142 Stankievi\u010d&#8217;s Facebook and VKontakte accounts promoting medieval reenactment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other blacklisted content includes a printed collection of Belarusian poetry and several other social media accounts, the information ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 1,977 NGOs, including associations, trade unions and foundations, were dissolved between the 2020 presidential election and late October 2025, Lawtrend said in a report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michai\u0142 \u0141apienas, a former designated political prisoner who currently lives in Poland, is wanted in Belarus, <em>Flagshtok<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of November 6, human rights defenders identified at least 1,237 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.
