{"id":163755,"date":"2025-11-11T22:27:52","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T19:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/163755\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"british-french-charges-lay-flowers-at-minsk-military-cemetery-on-remembrance-day","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/163755\/","title":{"rendered":"British, French charg\u00e9s lay flowers at Minsk cemetery on Remembrance Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>November 11, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The UK charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires, Nicholas Collier, and the French charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires, Pierre Pourtier, have laid flowers at the Mass Military Cemetery in Minsk as a sign of respect and gratitude for those who gave their lives in World War I, the British embassy said on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collier said the war ended at 11:00 a.m. on November 11, 1918, and people around the world pause to honor the fallen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs part of remembrance, we wear a red poppy . . . It was inspired by the flowers that grew on the battlefields of the First World War. By wearing it, we honor the courage and sacrifice of those who served,\u201d the diplomat stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On November 11, the United Kingdom celebrates Remembrance Day. Each year, starting in late October, paper poppies are sold in this country for donations to help veterans. People pin the flowers to their clothes as a sign of respect for the fallen. This tradition has also spread to other European countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mass Military Cemetery is a memorial for those who died in WWI, located between \u010carviakova Street and Staravilenski Road. About 5,000 soldiers, officers and refugees are buried there. Most of the names are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During WWII, there was a death camp for prisoners of war on the cemetery\u2019s territory.
