November 12, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The Office of \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has filed an inquiry with Portugal\u2019s government agencies regarding the lifting of temporary protection on Belarusians who came there from Ukraine after the start of Russia\u2019s full-fledged aggression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s press office, the move follows her meeting with diaspora, including IT specialists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja visited Portugal on Monday and Tuesday to attend Web Summit 2025 and other events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local authorities gave Belarusians 20 days to leave the country. However, many of those who came from Ukraine had reportedly emigrated due to reprisals or repression risks associated with post-election protests. It would be dangerous for them to return or be deported to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting participants also discussed problems that Belarusian face obtaining travel documents, demands from immigration officials for documents inaccessible to exiled opposition activists, such as Belarusian criminal record certificates and IDs for children born in Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her trip to Portugal, Cichano\u016dskaja also met with Michael O’Flaherty, the Council of Europe\u2019s human rights commissioner, and Henna Virkkunen, the EU\u2019s executive vice-president for tech sovereignty, security and democracy. She also met with executives of Big Tech companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
