November 14, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian human rights groups have declared nine more people to be political prisoners, according to a joint statement released by the Viasna center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement names Andrej Bakurenka, Alaksandar Chom\u010dyk, Mika\u0142aj Luckievi\u010d, Alaksandar Va\u016d\u010dok, Ja\u016dhien Dziemianio\u016d, Alaksandar Kazak, Anton Ravan and Alaksandar Skarachod, who have already been sentenced; and Alaksandar Jelisieje\u016d, who has been taken into custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their charges range from inciting hatred and insulting officials to supporting extremism and high treason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rights groups demanded a fair review of the sentences and freedom for the aforementioned individuals. They also reiterated their call to release all political prisoners and end reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides Viasna, the statement was signed by the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, Pravavaja Inicyjatyva, the Belarusian Association of Journalists, Belarusian PEN, the Barys Zvozska\u016d Human Rights House and Respect-Protect-Fulfill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of this evening, human rights defenders listed 1,255 political prisoners in Belarus, though the actual number is believed to be significantly higher due to numerous undocumented cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
