November 24, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Lithuania reported 12 attempts by third-country migrants to enter the country from Belarus on November 23 after not registering any attempts for three weeks since November 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of the year, Lithuanian border guards thwarted 1,557 attempts by undocumented migrants from Asia and Africa to enter the country. That was a rise of 63 percent from 955 attempts recorded in the same period of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland prevented 17 attempts on November 23 and as many as 28,765 attempts since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia prevented six entries and 11,719 since January 1. However, the flow undocumented migrants from Belarus to Latvia rose by 120 percent from 5,225 attempts in the same period of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people attempting to enter the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, signaled that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route into the bloc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended its readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions imposed after the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland describe the migration crisis as a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
