November 28, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> This year, the EU neighbors registered a record number of attempts by undocumented migrants to cross the border from Belarus in the last four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU neighbors reported 42,187 irregular crossing attempts from January 1 to November 26 compared with 36,291 throughout 2025, 42,078 in 2023 and 32,196 in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people attempting to enter the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, signaled that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route into the bloc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended its readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions imposed after the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland describe the migration crisis as a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
