November 30, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus\u2019 exiled opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka urged Europe \u201cnot to build a wall for Belarusians\u201d as he spoke at the Congress of Young European Conservatives and Reformers this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Belarusians want to be in Europe. Don\u2019t forget that Belarus and the Belarusian people are historically part of Europe, not part of Russia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have consistently called for tougher sanctions on the [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka regime, since the dictator understands only the language of strength. But borders should be open for Belarusians so that they can visit Poland, the EU and other countries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed the importance of support for the embattled Belarusian media, bloggers, social media initiatives and politicians, alternative democratic institutions and legal efforts to bring the dictator to justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that Belarus is key for European security. \u201cIf we say that the Belarusian outpost now is a big threat to security of Europe and Ukraine, we need a pro-active strategy to change the situation in Belarus,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The congress took place in Lublin from November 27 to 29. Participants included President Karol Nawrocki, Law and Justice leader Jaros\u0142aw Kaczynski, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Ma\u0142gorzata Gosiewska, head of the European Parliament\u2019s delegation for relations with Belarus, according to the event\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
