December 1, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Poland did not allow at least 400 third-country foreigners to cross irregularly via Belarus last month, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Migrant activity fluctuated in the second half of the month, dropping from 129 attempts in the first week and 132 in the second week to just 32 in the third week, when Poland reopened two checkpoints on the shared border with Belarus. However, the number of attempts surged to 107 in the final week of the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, the Polish Border Guard has recorded 28,835 attempts, a 1.3-percent decrease compared to the same period last year, but 15 percent higher than in January-November 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The neighboring European Union countries have thwarted at least 42,275 irregular crossings from Belarus since Janaury \u2014 an increase of 19.2 percent year on year. Poland remained the primary target, followed by Latvia with 11,833 attempts and Lithuania with 1,607 attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
