December 1, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Natalla Ejsmant, spokeswoman for the Belarusian leader, has sharply criticized Lithuania after Belarus\u2019 security services reported finding a crashed UAV and several small opposition white-red-white flags in Hrodna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said that Belarusian ruler Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka had been informed of the incident and had instructed the Committee for State Security and other agencies to take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs for the Lithuanians, after making a blunder by closing the border, they are now doing other silly things that will turn against them,\u201d her Telegram channel Pul Pervogo<\/em> quoted her as saying.
\u201cHaving shot themselves in the leg, they are now shooting themselves between the legs,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier in the day, the Belarusian foreign ministry summoned Lithuania\u2019s charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires, Erikas Vilkanecas, to deliver a note of protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry described the incident as \u201ca deliberate provocation,\u201d demanding that Vilnius launch an investigation, hold those responsible to account and prevent similar incidents in the future. According to the ministry, the drone was launched from Lithuania and crossed into Belarus on November 30 from the Lazdijai municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBelarus reserves the right to take necessary measures to defend its sovereignty,\u201d the statement warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian interior ministry said the UAV was equipped with a camera and may have been used for reconnaissance. It claimed the drone was launched from Kap\u010diamiestis, a Lithuanian village near the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tensions between the two countries have been rising over irregular migration, repeated border closures, Minsk\u2019s refusal to release hundreds of trucks stranded in Belarus and cigarette-smuggling balloons that have disrupted operations at Vilnius International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania suspended contacts with Belarusian officials after the 2020 presidential election, which it said was rigged, and has not recognized Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka as president. Vilnius has provided shelter to \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s exiled rival, \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
