December 6, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Minsk remains open to resuming “pragmatic and constructive bilateral cooperation for the benefit\u201d of the peoples of Belarus and Finland, says Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s congratulatory message to the Finnish people on Independence Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The policy of \u201cartificial confrontation\u201d runs counter to the \u201cfundamental interests of both states,\u201d which have historically maintained \u201crespectful relations based on common Christian values, non-interference in internal affairs and the pursuit of national prosperity,\u201d the message reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka avoids addressing the authorities of countries that he considers unfriendly. Finland, a member of the European Union, supports sanctions against Minsk and has consistently supported Belarusian pro-democracy forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja attended the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) ministerial meeting in Vienna at the invitation of Finland, which currently holds the OSCE chairmanship.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
