December 10, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> More than 60 percent of content on Belarusian pro-government Telegram channels centers on the war in Ukraine and the alleged Western threats, Alesia Rudnik of the Center for New Ideas said during an online presentation of a recent analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The narratives consistently depict the West as the driving force behind conflicts and political upheavals abroad, including the 2020 postelection protests in Belarus, while simultaneously exaggerating the economic and social challenges facing Western nations, the expert noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Propaganda often relies on creating a heightened sense of threat, framing Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine from a pro-Russian perspective, while issues such as Belarusian internal politics or integration with Russia receive little to no attention, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pro-government Telegram channels churn out a steady stream of similar messages, but analysis suggested they fail to rally supporters or spark emotional engagement. This may reflect a broader trend of digital authoritarianism, where control is exerted less through outright censorship and more through saturating the information space with carefully managed themes, Rudnik stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These channels also appear to have limited interaction with Russian online propaganda, indicating that ideological alignment with Russia does not necessarily translate into control over Belarus\u2019 internal information space, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
