December 10, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A 29-year-old foreign national has been sentenced to three years in a Belarusian prison on charges of organizing illegal migration, the Investigative Committee reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man, whose citizenship was not disclosed, arrived in Minsk two years ago to study but worked as a taxi driver before becoming involved in an illegal migration scheme, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second defendant in the case is still wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both facilitated the illegal stay and entry of 20 foreigners in Belarus, earning more than 7,000 rubles (around $2,400) by forging documents to help migrants obtain visas and temporary residence permits in Belarus, the investigators said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, the interior ministry reported the arrest of four Belarusians and two foreigners suspected of trafficking at least 120 undocumented migrants from Central Asia into the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
