All expenses would be covered by the Latvian state budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latvian authorities linked the move to a surge in illegal border crossings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latvian border guards and police provide food and basic necessities as well as necessary medical help to illegal migrants in life-threatening circumstances, the government noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latvian authorities have prevented over 14,000 illegal border crossings since August 11, 2021, when the state of emergency was declared at the border.
