{"id":1683,"date":"2023-08-09T12:42:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T09:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=1683"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"dissident-athletes-association-helped-thousands-in-three-years-founder","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/1683\/","title":{"rendered":"Dissident athletes\u2019 association helped thousands in three years \u2013 founder"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 9,&nbsp;<em>BPN<\/em>.<\/strong>&nbsp;The Belarusian Sports Solidarity Foundation (BSSF) used over \u20ac300,000 to implement projects in Belarus and support harassed athletes, its founder Alaksandar Apiejkin has told&nbsp;<em>BPN<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BSSF also supported Ukrainian projects with \u20ac200,000 after the start of the full-scale Russian war in February 2022, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BSSF team of 12 received more than 300 requests for assistance during the three years of its activity, its founder added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It provided emergency funding, consultations, visa support as well as legal aid to ensure protection of athletes&#8217; rights in international sports federations and the International Olympic Committee, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BSSF is unique as it assisted thousands of athletes persecuted on politically-motivated grounds after the disputed 2020 presidential election in Belarus, Apiejkin stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the next two years, the foundation will focus on combatting international isolation of children&#8217;s and youth sports, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BSSF had several successful cases of helping persecuted athletes to enter international competitions and will continue this work. &#8220;Separate criteria for this group of athletes may be adopted by the end of the year,&#8221; Apiejkin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BSSF was founded in 2020 on the wave of mass protests against presidential election fraud and acts as an independent union for athletes. Belarusian authorities blacklisted it as an extremist group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In late 2022, the Minsk City Court found its founders Alaksandra Hierasimenia and Apiejkin guilty of calling for sanctions against Belarus.
