{"id":168716,"date":"2025-12-18T11:33:05","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T08:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/168716\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"eu-neighbors-report-three-irregular-crossing-attempts-on-december-16","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/168716\/","title":{"rendered":"EU neighbors report three irregular crossing attempts on December 16"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>December 18,&nbsp;<em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Latvia, Lithuania and Poland each reported one attempt by third country migrants to cross the border from Belarus outside official checkpoints on December 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nine attempts were recorded the previous day (two by Lithuania and seven by Latvia), one attempt on December 13 and December 14 (both by Latvia), two attempts on December 12 (one by Latvia and one by Lithuania) and as many as 192 (186 by Poland, five by Latvia and one by Lithuania) on December 11, when Polish border guards discovered a tunnel under the border fence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From December 1 to 16, Poland thwarted 191 irregular crossings, followed by Latvia (62) and Lithuania (6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarus\u2019 western neighbors have reported 42,542 irregular entries since the start of 2025, 17.9 percent more than in the same period in 2024. Poland remained the primary target of irregular migration with 29,026 attempts this year, followed by Latvia with 11,903 attempts and Lithuania with 1,613 attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The flow of people desperate to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 18,&nbsp;Pozirk.
