December 20, Pozirk. <\/strong>The Belarusian interior ministry has added 32 more people to the list of \u201cpersons involved in extremist activity,\u201d taking the total number of entries on the official extremist register to 6,116.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All blacklisted people were convicted in Belarus on charges that authorities use to persecute their political opponents. Rights groups consider Hanna Bahinskaja, D\u017amitryj Ro\u017eyn, Anton Ravan, Maksim Ralko and Kiry\u0142 Krauco\u016d as political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ralko, a former soldier of the Belarusian Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment (KKR) that fights alongside Ukrainian forces, was given ten years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volha Cichanovi\u010d and D\u017amitryj Do\u016dhal have a status of former political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrej Ci\u0161ko\u016d, Kiri\u0142 Vy\u010dera\u016d, Siarhiej Mura\u0161ka, D\u017amitryj Karniej\u010dyk, Anton Makara\u016d, Jahor Dylanok, Andrej Jankovi\u010d, Andrej Stasiukievi\u010d and Eldar Hasima\u016d were convicted on extremism-related charges; Michai\u0142 \u0141obara\u016d and U\u0142adzimir Mielikaje\u016d faced charges of inciting hatred and insulting officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentences of Natalla Kalada, Kaciaryna Kala\u015bniova, Lubo\u016d Raho\u017ekina, Kaciaryna Klima\u0161e\u016dskaja, Ja\u016dhien Bierta\u0161, Alena Sa\u016d\u010denia and Illa Bohdan remain incomplete, which means that they may serve non-custodial terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the list includes prominent exiled opposition activists declared as “wanted in Belarus” and convicted in absentia for setting up solidarity initiatives: former BySol head Andrej Stry\u017eak, Alaksiej Lavon\u010dyk of By_Help, Jaras\u0142a\u016d Licha\u010de\u016dski, founder of the New Belarus platform, BySol co-founder Alaksiej Ku\u017amianko\u016d, Alaksandar \u0141apko, head of the Belarusian Youth Hub in Warsaw, blogger Alaksandra \u017duk and IT entrepreneur Alaksandar Padhorny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
