December 27, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin described the Ukrainian leadership as \u201caggressive and unpredictable\u201d in the interview broadcast yesterday by the state-run news.b<\/em>y.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey openly call us co-aggressors. They have differing views on whether to attack us, so the situation remains consistently tense,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chrenin\u2019s remarks followed comments a day earlier by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said Belarus was facilitating Russian attacks on railway infrastructure in western Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky said Russia was using Belarusian territory to bypass Ukraine\u2019s air defense systems and launch drone attacks, adding that antennas and other equipment had been installed on the rooftops of five-story residential buildings in Belarusian border towns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the interview, Chrenin also accused European countries, including Belarus\u2019 western neighbors, of preparing for war with Russia and Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Poles want to create the most powerful army,\u201c he said. \u201dThe German leadership has recently shown its intentions. They also say, \u2018We want to build a powerful army.\u2019 You know, it reminds me of the eve of the Second World War . . . The Baltic states are not far behind with their aggressive leadership. In this regard, they are taking action in terms of allocating funds. This is more than 5 percent of GDP, which already speaks of a pre-war budget; they are really preparing for war.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
